The Town uses the TRIO software program to track all assessments. Through TRIO all tax accounts have an individual tax card that outlines exactly how the account is calculated. Copies of these can be viewed at the Town Office during normal office hours or can be requested via email or fax. Send an email request to Toni, Diane, or Carol using the emails on the home page or fax request to 422-6705.
The Board of Selectmen are also the Board of Assessor's and have chosen for many years, to hire an Assessing Agent. This is someone certified to compile assessments, prepare tax records and review property accounts. The Town of Hancock's Assessing Agent is Tom Edwards.
Tom was born in central Connecticut in 1942. He worked in the construction industry (roads, site development, public utilities) until he started his own business building custom single family homes in 1973. The Jimmy Carter 'stagflation' (18% interest rates) forced him to give up his business in 1979. Tom moved to Maine in 1980 and began a career in real estate and appraising. He became a partner in a 3 office firm. He decided that appraising and assessing were his real interest and started his own business in 1988. Since then, he has been the Assessor, or Assessor Agent for mostly coastal Maine towns or towns with high value fresh water lakes. Tom is married to his wife, Cindy, for over 30 years. They have 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Tom and Cindy live in Sangerville on Center Pond from May until November, and winter at their home in Cape Coral, Florida the rest of the year.
